How to Stop Addiction

First, Can you Be True to Yourself?

When I was in full-blown addiction mode there were times I told myself, and others, I was finished getting high. I would tell my family the same thing. I didn’t want to get high anymore, or at least that is what I thought.

When it came down to it, I wasn’t tired of getting high. I was tired of trying to get money to get high. It was like a full-time job hustling and trying to get enough money to keep myself well every day. I was tired of arguing with my family about the way I was living my life. I wasn’t tired of getting high. I just wanted a break from everything that came along with getting high. When I had money, I could get the drugs, and life was easy. I could get high all day if I had money and it wasn’t a hassle.

I believe a lot of addicts fall into this same situation. Most addicts may not be finished with drugs, but they say they are tired. They are tired of the ripping and running and insanity that comes with using.

An addict needs to think things through when they are ready to quit. Don’t get me wrong. Whenever an addict quits, even if it is just for a day, it is good. If an addict wants to stop getting high, then they need to dig deep and make sure they are ready. For the recovery process to work right, an addict needs to want to stop because they are done…
